5 Tips for Glowing, Healthy Skin

Read Time:3 Minute, 15 Second

Achieving that dewy, glowing look is about more than beauty or self-care. Healthy skin is an essential facet of taking care of your body.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ and plays an important role in alerting your body to uncomfortable conditions like heat, cold, and pain. It also prevents dangerous pathogens and microbes from entering your bloodstream.

So how can you make sure that your beauty routine is in your skin’s best interests?

Here are our top four tips on caring for your skin to ensure long-term health and a youthful glow.

1. Invest in a High-quality Shower Filter

When we notice dull, peeling, or itchy skin, many of us rush to the drug store or cosmetics aisle for new skincare products.

However, investing in top-of-the-line lotions and serums won’t do any good if the water you’re bathing in has harmful chemicals or contaminants in it.

A water purifier shower head is effective in reducing harsh chemicals and contaminants and can decrease the negative effects of heavy metals. It’s a filtration system that protects your skin and hair by trapping chlorine, chloramine, and other harmful substances and particles.

Your skin’s natural oils become stripped from overexposure to impurities in water. A water purifier shower head reduces the impurities in unfiltered water, so your showers will be more relaxing and enjoyable.

2. Stay Out of the Sun

You may not want to hear this, but sun damage is one of the biggest causes of dark spots, pronounced wrinkles, and patchy skin. Soaking up those rays may feel delicious in the moment, but you’ll pay for those luxurious sun sessions with signs of premature aging.

Excessive sunbathing can have more serious consequences, too. Tanning – whether under natural sunlight or in a tanning bed – increases your risk of malignant melanoma, or skin cancer.

To retain your skin’s youthful glow, stay out of direct sunlight whenever possible. Wear a hat that shields your face when you go outside, and be sure to apply moisturizer and sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

3. Hydrate

Dehydration has a noticeably detrimental effect on your skin. If you’re not drinking enough water, you’ll start to experience pronounced eyebags, uncomfortable tightness, and more pronounced lines. Your skin may also feel dry or itchy.

Current guidelines suggest that men should drink about 16 cups of water each day, while women should consume around 12 cups. If you’re not used to tracking your hydration, that may seem like a lot, but you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes in your skin’s appearance.

4. Get Plenty of Sleep

If there’s one thing everybody hates hearing, it’s “You look tired today!” While it’s definitely a rude thing to say, this throwaway comment does highlight the fact that poor or insufficient sleep has a dramatic effect on our skin.

When we don’t get enough sleep, our skin starts to lose its elasticity, making it appear drawn and deepening any lines or wrinkles. Prominent eye bags and uneven pigmentation can also occur.

The quality of your sleep is just as important as the length of sleep, if not more so. Healthy sleepers enjoy radiant, youthful-looking skin – as well as the myriad other benefits of getting a solid night’s rest.

5. Enjoy Healthier, Softer Skin

You don’t have to spend all your money on expensive serums and creams in order to achieve your skin goals. Many of the lifestyle changes that will bring your skin the greatest benefits – like sleeping, drinking water, and avoiding excessive sun exposure – are free, or just about.

Take control of your health and get back to loving the skin you’re in – follow these five tips for a youthful glow that turns heads and keeps you looking fresh all year long!
